Assassin's Creed

This weekend, Ubisoft will reveal a number of Assassin’s Creed titles, one of which is set in Japan.

Along with the already confirmed Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the publisher is rumoured to reveal a number of new titles in the series.

According to a new source, not one, not two, but three separate Assassin’s Creed games will be released on Saturday in addition to the already leaked and confirmed Mirage. This suggests that the Assassin’s Creed machine at Ubisoft is working efficiently.

Assassin’s Creed is unquestionably Ubisoft’s most popular and consistently profitable franchise. The core idea behind the games hasn’t changed much since the first one hit the market in 2007. Every game takes players to a different time and location, such as ancient Egypt or the French Revolution. As part of a wider, somewhat muddled meta-narrative involving ancient aliens, evil Templars, and rebel-like Assassins, players in each game traverse vast areas, complete objectives, and kill significant, occasionally historical targets.

According to a fresh claim from Bloomberg, which supports a previous report from TryHardGuides, Ubisoft intends to announce four separate Assassin’s Creed games during its Ubisoft Forward event on September 10.

Ubisoft was contacted by Kotaku, but the publisher didn’t reply before the article was published.

Jason Schreier of Bloomberg reports that the publisher will also introduce two more “big games” in addition to a new mobile instalment of the Assassin’s Creed series. The first of these big games is supposedly an open-world title under the codename Red, as we initially reported in July. According to the latest claims, Red is being created by Ubisoft Quebec and is based in Japan. The other “main” game features witch trials and is set during the “latter phases of the Holy Roman Empire.” This game is allegedly being created by Ubisoft Montreal and has the codenames Neo or Hexe.

According to rumours, both of these core games will be a part of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, a larger online hub developed by Ubisoft. Since we initially learnt about this initiative last year, there hasn’t been much formal information released. Red and Neo are said to be a part of Infinity by Bloomberg.

While fans may be eager to play an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan, a country that players have long desired the series to visit, it appears like you’ll have to wait a little while longer, since both titles are expected to release no early than 2024. And given how frequently these games are large in scope and how common delays are in the video game industry, it’s possible that one of these projects will be delayed until 2025 or 2026.

Ubisoft will also go into more detail regarding the recently confirmed (after it was first leaked) Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This game, which is supposedly set in Baghdad in the 800s and was first intended as DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is now being developed independently. According to Bloomberg, it will forgo many of the RPG-like aspects seen in more recent games in the series and instead place a stronger emphasis on stealth than earlier games. The release date for this one is reportedly early 2023.

I suppose I see why Chinese behemoth Tencent opted to invest more in Ubisoft, saying today that it was pouring another $300 million into the publisher, given all the Assassin’s Creed action planned.
