In 2024, Davido, born David Adedeji Adeleke, reaffirmed his position as a global music icon through remarkable achievements that left an indelible mark on the music industry.
January 2024 witnessed his single “Unavailable” climb to No. 52 on the UK Singles Chart while dominating the UK Afrobeats Chart at No. 1. His critically acclaimed fourth studio album, Timelessgarnered three nominations at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards. These included Best Global Music Album for TimelessBest Global Music Performance for “FEEL,” and Best African Music Performance for “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys, cementing his influence on the global music stage.
Davido’s recognition extended to the African Entertainment Awards USA, where he secured nominations for Best Male Artiste of the Year, Best Song Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Song of the Year. He emerged victorious as Artist of the Year, further showcasing his impact.
Davido added another layer of success with the release of his songs “Wake up.” It was a collaboration with YG Marley, which dropped earlier in September 2024, blending Afrobeats with amapiano to deliver a captivating sound that resonated with global audiences. Other songs he released this year were “easy on me”, “yebo”, “wap’ and “right now”
In this year, he had collaborations which were deeply appreciated by his fans as they were serenaded by the outcome. He collaborated with Brown Joel for the song “ogechi” this song gained widespread attention around the nation. He also collaborated with Angelique Kidjo, a veteran and prominent artiste for the song “joy” which also blew the minds of everyone who cared to listen.
On the personal front, Davido shared a significant milestone with his fans. In March 2023, he confirmed his marriage to Chioma Rowland. This was followed by a grand wedding ceremony on June 25, 2024, held at Harbour Point in Victoria Island, Lagos. The event was graced by an influx of prominent signatories, one of whom was former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The year ended on a high note as Davido announced his fifth studio album, 5iveset for release in March 2025. Alongside this, he dropped the single “Funds,” featuring rapper Odumodublvck and singer Chike, a track that samples Brenda Fassie’s iconic 1997 hit “Vuli Ndlela.”
From awards to new music and personal milestones, Davido’s contributions in 2024 not only solidified his reputation as one of Africa’s most influential artists but also showcased his substantiating impact on the global music scene.
