A deal between The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific and the management group Hybe Corporation means that two shows with the Korean pop group BTS will be shown on Disney’s international streaming platforms.
The CEO of Hybe, Park Ji-won, said, “This is the beginning of a long-term partnership where we show fans of our music and artists around the world a wide range of Hybe content.”
As part of the agreement to “showcase the creative excellence of South Korea’s music and entertainment industry,” five major titles will be released around the world. Only three have been shown so far.
“BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage – LA” is the most important title so far. The show is a 4K concert film of BTS performing live in November 2021 at Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles. The band met fans in person for the first time since the start of the pandemic two years ago at the show. BTS hits “Butter” and “Permission to Dance” were played during the set.
In “In the Soop: Friendcation,” V from BTS will be on the show with Park Seo-jun from “Itaewon Class,” Choi Woo-Shik Choi from “Parasite,” Park Hyung-Sik, and Peakboy. In the show, five friends go on a surprise trip together and do a variety of leisurely and fun things. There was no date given.
The two companies have also agreed to make “BTS Monuments: Beyond the Star,” a docuseries about the seven-member pop group’s rise to fame. It says it has “unprecedented access” to a library of music and footage from the band’s nine years and will look into the daily lives, thoughts, and plans of BTS members as they prepare for their second chapter. From next year, you will only be able to watch it on Disney’s streaming services.
The Walt Disney Company has a majority stake in Hulu and has its own streaming services, Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.
Hype, which used to be called Big Hit Entertainment, runs many different music labels. It now makes videos, games, and stories of its own. It also has its own fandom-focused platform business called Reverse.
