George Clooney-Julia Roberts

George Clooney joins the human race and acknowledges that unlike Julia Roberts, he hasn’t “succeeded” in rom-coms.

It’s encouraging to know that even George Clooney occasionally requires affirmation. It’s a relief to know that the two-time Oscar winner and former Batman is uneasy about his performance at work because living as a normal mortal is a nightmare. He acknowledged that, unlike his co-star Julia Roberts, he has never “succeeded” at the whole romantic comedy thing in a recent interview with The New York Times. Clooney, come on in.

Clooney remarked, “They sent me the script, and it was obviously written for Julia and I.” In actuality, Georgia and Julian were the original names of the characters. In spite of the fact that I haven’t really attempted a romantic comedy since One Fine Day and haven’t had the same level of success, I read it and thought, “Well, if Jules is up for it, I believe this could be fun.

One Fine Day is a great movie to defend Clooney against himself. Who wouldn’t want to see Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer enjoying a wonderful day together? The public would prefer to see Clooney hanging around with his fictitious ex-wife, Julia Roberts. Okay, fine.

Due to our chemistry, it seemed to make sense solely to George. Roberts uttered. We are entering it as this divorced couple, but others are aware of our friendship. We have that going for us since probably half of America believes we are divorced.

In addition, George and I felt a great sense of responsibility to create a comedy with the goal of providing people with a break from reality after the world had gone through a particularly trying period. It’s similar to when it’s chilly outside and you’re walking down the sidewalk until you finally reach that beautiful patch of sun that hits your back and you think, “Oh, yeah. This feeling is just what I needed.

We appreciate your service, Roberts and Clooney, for forming the nation’s preferred fictitious divorced pair.

Despite sharing that exuberant energy with Roberts, a combination that gave the Ocean’s films a romantic edge, Clooney has surprisingly made few rom-coms. Aside from One Fine Day, Clooney has only appeared in Michael Clayton, which is less of a rom-com and more of a decent movie, and Intolerable Cruelty, which could be considered an anti-romantic comedy. Maybe Clooney’s kissing style is to blame for the failure.

“I recall having to perform a kissing sequence with this girl early in my career, and the director told me, ‘Not like that.’ Then I thought, “Dude, that’s my move!” That’s what I actually do! It makes sense why he had latex lips in Batman & Robin.

Of course, Roberts is the supreme exponent of the genre, and she explained its absence more well than most.

Roberts: I believe that we underappreciated the abundance of romantic comedies available at the time. Because it’s enjoyable and lovely and people are smiling, kissing, and acting mischievously, you can’t see all the effort and puppet strings. Additionally, I believe that reading those texts at 54 years old is unique. My Best Friend’s Wedding, in which I’m falling off a chair and experiencing other unpleasant events, is a book I can’t read because —

Clooney: Your hip would break.

Roberts: My hip would snap! George, ah. However, it was enjoyable to read something that was suitable for my age, where the jokes made sense, and where I could respect and understand what these individuals were going through. People want to see how closely you are connected to a piece of art. Not just, “Oh, do something humorous because we love that,” but rather, “They want to see the heart space that you have for it.”
