For the creation and operation of metaverse applications, such as immersive digital twin simulations in NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise, new technology offers the graphics and simulation base.
In order to operate immersive digital twin simulations in NVIDIA Omniverse Enterprise, a scalable, end-to-end platform that enables businesses to build and operate metaverse applications, NVIDIA has just announced the second generation of NVIDIA OVXTM. This version of NVIDIA OVXTM is powered by a next-generation GPU architecture and improved networking technology. It can be used to create 3D virtual worlds using top 3D software applications.
Some of the most advanced design and engineering teams in the world will receive NVIDIA OVX, a computing system that was just launched in March and is intended to enable large-scale Omniverse digital twins, from businesses like BMW Group and Jaguar Land Rover.
According to Bob Pette, vice president of Professional Visualization at NVIDIA, “Large-scale digital twins are altering how nearly every industry plans, creates, and constructs in the physical world.” The newest generation of computational power needed for the most complicated digital twins of factories, buildings, and entire cities will be provided by NVIDIA OVX.
The NVIDIA® L40 GPU, which is based on the NVIDIA next-generation GPU architecture and provides high levels of power and performance for creating intricate industrial digital twins, is the engine driving the new OVX systems.
In addition to accelerated ray-traced and path-traced material rendering, physically accurate simulations, and photorealistic 3D synthetic data generation, the L40 GPU’s third-generation RT Cores and fourth-generation Tensor Cores will provide powerful capabilities to Omniverse workloads running on OVX. To power RTX workloads from the data centre, the L40 will also be offered in NVIDIA-Certified SystemTM servers from leading OEM manufacturers.
The new NVIDIA OVX also comes with the NVIDIA ConnectX®-7 SmartNIC, which offers improved network and storage performance as well as the precise temporal synchronisation necessary for true-to-life digital twins. To speed up data transfer and boost security for digital twins, ConnectX-7 provides capability for 200G networking on each port and quick in-line data encryption.
Global Adopters Speed Up Performance
The BMW Group and Jaguar Land Rover will be two of the first vehicles to use the new systems’ power.
Jürgen Wittmann, head of innovation and virtual manufacturing at BMW Group, stated that creating cutting-edge digital twins using NVIDIA Omniverse is the first step in planning the factories of the future. “Our digital twin workloads will be conducted on NVIDIA OVX systems, which will offer the performance and scale required to create massive photorealistic representations of our plants and run realistic simulations,”
will alter our production, design, and manufacturing procedures.
Alex Heslop, director of electrical, electronic, and software engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, said, “NVIDIA OVX and DRIVE Sim deliver a powerful platform that enables us to simulate a wide range of real-world driving scenarios to safely and efficiently test our next generation of connected and autonomous vehicles as well as to recreate the customer journey to demonstrate vehicle features and functions. “This technology will speed our progress toward our objective of a future with zero accidents and less congestion by generating vast volumes of high-fidelity, physically accurate scenarios in a scalable, cost-efficient manner.”
Specifications for computing systems
With the power of 100/200/400G networking, each OVX server node combines eight NVIDIA L40 GPUs with three NVIDIA ConnectX-7 network adapters. The servers can be set up with the NVIDIA SpectrumTM-3 Ethernet platform in NVIDIA OVX POD and SuperPOD configurations for Omniverse workloads that need a greater level of performance and scale.
