After two years, Amazon upgrades their 8-inch tablets.
Amazon is releasing a new Fire HD 8 tablet for 2022, which is two years after the release of the previous model. The new model is “faster, lighter, and powered by an all-day battery life,” according to Amazon. The price is ridiculously low as usual: $99.99 for the Fire 8 HD and $119.99 for the “Fire 8 HD Plus,” which has better specifications. Prior to the debut, Amazon did not provide a complete spec sheet, although information should soon be available on the Amazon Developer website.
What is known is as follows. Amazon claims that the eight-core SoC in the 2020 Fire 8 is “30 percent quicker” than the MT8168. It is most likely a Mediatek. A MicroSD slot, 32GB or 64GB of storage, and 2GB of RAM are all included in the base model. Amazon claims that the Fire 8 HD will last for “13 hours,” but the older model got the same amount of time using a 4,850 mAh battery. Using a 5 W USB-C power converter at the bottom of the barrel, the tablet charges in five hours.
For $20 more, the “Plus” model sets the bar a little higher. You get an enhanced 5MP back camera, wireless charging, a massive 9 W USB-C charger, and 3GB of RAM. The tablet is kept upright by the wireless charging dock, which also enables it to switch into an Echo Show-like Alexa smart display mode. The Plus version of the Fire 8 appears exactly like the standard Fire 8 from the exterior.

Kids’ versions are also available. Due to the exceptionally robust, permanently attached case, Amazon claims that the Fire HD 8 Kids is “made for kids ages 3-7,” but the Fire HD 8 Kids Pro is “developed for school-aged kids 6-12” and has a somewhat less substantial shell. The Kids editions include instructional material, parental controls, kickstands, and an annual subscription to Amazon Kids+. Kids tablets start at $149.99, with Disney-branded variants costing an additional $10. You’ll pay more for that quantity.
