Following the rapper’s most recent “White Lives Matter” shirt fiasco, Adidas has now formally placed Kanye West’s already fragile connection with the sportswear company “under review.”
According to CNBC, the firm said in a statement on Thursday that it has decided to put the collaboration under review “after several attempts to quietly settle the matter.”
Throughout this time, “We will continue to co-manage the current product.”
The statement was answered on Instagram by West, 45, who wrote, “F-K ADIDAS I AM ADIDAS ADIDAS RAPED AND STOLE MY DESIGNS.”
The fashion designer and Adidas first collaborated in 2013 to oversee production and distribution of the fashion designer’s Yeezy brand.
The agreement was meant to extend through 2026, but this past August, West started airing his grievances with the business.
He claimed that Adidas “selected colours and named them,” “hired employees that worked for [him],” “stole [his] colours [and] styles,” and hired a general manager without his permission in a direct Instagram message to Complex magazine.
The “All of the Lights” rapper further asserted that the company put off the launch of his Yeezy Gap collaboration with Balenciaga.
At the time, Adidas didn’t reply to West’s accusations.
The “Gold Digger” rapper’s future in fashion, on the other hand, appears to have forced the corporation to face the problems they have with him.
Many people, including Vogue editor Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and supermodel Gigi Hadid, have openly slammed West for donning a “White Lives Matter” shirt to his design show on Monday.
Black Lives Matter is a movement that seeks to highlight injustice, prejudice, and police violence against black people. The apparel was regarded as mocking this movement.
The outrage hasn’t stopped West, though; on Tuesday, he posted on his Instagram Stories, “Everyone knows that Black Lives Matter was a fraud now it’s over you’re welcome,” saying that he was “doubling down” despite it.
But Adidas wouldn’t be the first clothing brand to break off its relationship with the rapper of “All Falls Down.” In September, Gap affirmed that they had broken off their relationship with West because their “visions” were “not aligned.”
