By now, many Hogwarts Legacy players have figured out that no, there is not all that much difference between picking any of the four houses, outside of the color of your robes and some stray bits of dialogue. There is, however, one seemingly major difference, that one main quest is different for all four classes, and strangely, Hufflepuff seems to have gotten the best one.
The Hufflepuff quest, as part of finding lost pages from a mystical book, is one of four variants that has a different take on this same storyline, only in this one, it sends you to Azkaban, the fearsome prison from the original books. Hufflepuff is the statistically least chosen house in Hogwarts Legacy, so a ton of people will miss this quest, and some might be wondering if it’s worth starting a brand new character or not just to play it.
My answer after doing just this: meh.
The good news is that this quest is pretty early on in the main storyline. It happens before you even get your broom to start flying. I got to it about 90 minutes into my Hufflepuff playthrough but if you are literally just speedrunning the main quest only, you could probably be there in like 45. So it’s not a huge investment, and you don’t have to play to the end of the game unless you want to make some different choices later on. But those are not house-dependent, and that’s a separate issue.
The bad news is that the Azkaban quest is pretty underwhelming. If you’re expecting some sort of live battle with dementors and an exploration of the prison that…is not at all what it’s like. Here, you are instantly transported to Azkaban by a former Auror, which is really just a long hallway. There is a brief cutscene where the woman uses a rabbit patronus to chase away dementors, but that’s it. You won’t fight them.
You walk down the hallway and prisoners will say creepy things to you. There are a few open cells you can hop into. I didn’t find anything wild in any of them. Then you will talk to the insane woman at the end of the hall who will point you to the cave you need to go to, which ends up being the same as the other three quests. So the “Azkaban quest” is…walk down a hallway and talk to a person, essentially. It’s fine, but probably not worth its own playthrough.
I remain somewhat perplexed why this is really the only majorly different quest based on house, as I thought there’s be entire storylines based on which one you picked, but that isn’t the case, and your House doesn’t change anything about your relationships with Sebastian, Natty or Poppy. Again, mostly just colors.
