Maria Somerville has shared new song ‘Projections’, her debut for 4AD.
The artist’s probing musicality breaks down ideas of folk tradition, tapping into the ethereal ‘otherness’ of her locality. Music steeped in the atmosphere of the West of Ireland, her striking 2019 debut ‘All My People’ became a word-of-mouth success.
Signed to 4AD, the Irish artist makes her debut on the legendary label with ‘Projections’. Typically powerful, there’s also something striking, and palpably new – the sound of someone turning the page, and starting a fresh chapter.
Out now, ‘Projections’ boasts visuals recorded on VHS across Marseille and Maria Somerville’s native Galway; the video was built by Somerville, Michael Speers and Róisín Berkeley.
