iOS-16-iOS-15.7-OTA-alternative-optional-update

Before upgrading to iOS 16, Apple allows customers to stay on iOS 15.7 with security upgrades.

After months of beta testing, Apple finally made iOS 16 available to the general public on Monday. While some users have eagerly anticipated the new lock screen and other update features, some may wish to hold off on upgrading iOS 16 for a little while longer. This is the reason Apple is allowing consumers to continue using iOS 15 while receiving security upgrades prior to updating to iOS 16.

Apple also released iOS 15.7 for iPhone users today, while iOS 16 is undoubtedly the biggest news of the day. Users of iOS 15 now have the option to install either iOS 15.7 or iOS 16. The update doesn’t bring any significant changes, but it does include bug fixes and security improvements.

Apple has previously given users the choice to continue using an older iOS version. Users had the option to use iOS 14 for an extended period of time after iOS 15 became released last year while Apple continued to release security patches for it. A few months later, the corporation did away with this choice, though.

Apple stated at the time that the choice was always meant to be transitory, so this year we might see something similar. It’s understandable that some users (especially business users) might prefer to wait a few weeks before getting the upgrade because new iOS updates sometimes cause compatibility issues with specific programmes.

Staying on iOS 15.7
The iOS 15.7 update will be clearly visible on your iPhone when you open the Settings app’s Software Update option. An alternate selection is “Upgrade to iOS 16”. Simply select the version you wish to install, then wait for the update procedure to be completed. You can turn off automatic updates on your smartphone if you genuinely don’t want to install iOS 16.

On your iPad, iPod, or iPhone, launch the Settings app.
Activate the General menu.
Select Software Update.
Select Automatic Updates.
Turn off automatic download and installation of iOS updates.

Of course, bear in mind that Apple might only provide security updates for iOS 15 for a brief period of time. Apple has already said that the iPadOS 16 upgrade will be made available separately in October.
