Dr. Dre Credits Quincy Jones With “Inspiring” Him To Become A MusicProducer

Dr. Dre has credited late producer and musician Quincy Jones with inspiring him to pursue his own career in music.

On Monday (Nov. 4), Dr. Dre reacted to news of Jones’ death, posting a tribute to the musical visionary on his Instagram account. “Quincy is the reason why I decided to become a record producer,” Dre captioned the post, which was accompanied by a photo of himself sitting alongside Jones.

“His records were my go-to when I started engineering,” he added. “All of the time that I spent hanging out with him was priceless and I love how open he was- the advice he gave me, the conversations we had have helped me in my life and career. Forever inspired by the incomparable Quincy Jones.”

Quincy Jones passed away on Sunday (Nov. 3) in his Los Angeles home, according to the Associated Press. The music mogul was 91-years-old at the time of his death.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the Jones family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.

“He is truly one of a kind and we will miss him dearly; we take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created. Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’ heart will beat for eternity.”

Dr. Dre and Jones’ have spoken complementarily of one another throughout the years, with Jones even appearing on Dre’s Beats1 radio show The Pharmacy in 2015. Jones was also present with the 59-year-old when the pair presented Snoop Dogg with his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.
