Facebook alert: Possibly stolen passwords and usernames for 1 million users

(CNN) – Facebook’s owner, Meta, has issued a warning that up to one million users’ login credentials may have been compromised.

More than 400 malicious Android and Apple apps intended to steal individual Facebook logins have been found by company researchers.

According to a spokeswoman for Meta, the business is contacting any users who may be in danger.

The malicious programmes pose as games, photo editors, and lifestyle and health apps.

Users of apps are frequently prompted to check in using Facebook, which gives hackers access to login information.

The apps that have been recognised as being a part of the fraud are being taken down from Google Play, according to a Google spokeswoman.
