With a new update, Xbox users can now use voice chat on Discord.
This will let people “talk to anyone on Discord through voice channels or group calls right from your console.” Xbox says that this will make it easier for all of us to connect with other users on all of its platforms.
“Are you planning to play Halo: Infinite with friends on both consoles and computers? Exploring new biomes in Minecraft with your friends? See them already playing a game that allows them to play with other people? Join their voice channel and talk to them while you all play “it told you.
This update will only be available to a small group of Xbox Insiders for now. Then, in the “coming weeks,” it will be made available to everyone. Eurogamer will let you know when we find out more.
Those who are eligible to try out this new update today can do so by going to “Parties & Chats” on their console and clicking on the option that says “Try Discord Voice on Xbox.”
Then, a QR code will appear for you to scan. When you do, you’ll be taken to the Discord and Xbox apps, where you can “connect and set up a two-way link between your Xbox account and Discord.”
On the Discord mobile app, you will see a button that says “Join on Xbox.” Microsoft says here that to move voice chat from your Discord account to your Xbox, you will need the “Xbox app.”
As a general note, Microsoft has also said that if you have linked your Discord account to your Xbox in the past, you will need to re-link your account.
When all of this is turned on, you can change the sound, switch between Discord Voice and Xbox game chat whenever you want, and see who else is in the call with you.
If you’re not sure which game to try out with this latest update, you can look at Eurogamer’s guide to Xbox Game Pass here. Have a good time talking!
