Mariah Carey has reignited her long-running battle against overhead lighting.
The singer pop-R&B talent is known for her likes and dislikes, with Mariah demanding control over her life. Famously shy about walking anywhere, the American star has a prominent dislike – overhead lighting.
The issue has emerged over a number of interviews, such as her 2016 meeting with the Sunday Times. The chat took place at a mansion in Los Angeles, but the star went to great pains to point out that the building was rented.
“I have to point out this is a rented house—I would never have overhead lighting. High hats, they call them. In my apartment in New York, it’s all recessed lighting, chandeliers, candles. This lighting is abusive.”
Taking part in the ever-fascinating The Bodybuilders podcast, Mariah Carey knew that only one topic could truly grip her – overhead lighting.
She said it makes her “sick” and questioned “why do they do it to us…!”
”I can’t with the overhead lighting. Why do they do it to us? I shouldn’t say us, it’s not us, it’s me. I’m the one who’s the most tortured by the hideous lighting in elevators, doorway, gyms – not that I go to the gym, I’m just saying. It’s hideous lighting. The sun is OK if it’s sunset, I’ll gladly go outside and put a little hat on or whatever and that’ll be pretty because the sunlight caresses your skin. But it’s bad for you, so you have to be careful. But overhead lighting I don’t think so honey. Please stop it! Everywhere I go, shut the lights! I don’t want to see them no more. Overhead lighting, it makes me sick…”
A queen.
