Pixel-7-and-Pixel-7-Pro

Play Console leaked information on the Google Pixel 7’s face unlock and eSIM.

This time, Google provides us with another another look at the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

On October 6, Google plans to unveil the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro to the public. The most recent leaks indicate that there won’t be a significant increase over the Pixel 6 series, even if we are confident they will be among the greatest Android phones. However, Google does appear to be working to improve a lot of the minor aspects. The most recent discoveries enable both face unlock and dual eSIM.

Google has listed the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro (cheetah and panther, respectively) in the Google Play Console, as noticed by Android specialist Mishaal Rahman. Rahman was able to glean some intriguing nuggets from the publicly accessible data, despite the fact that the corporation has subsequently removed the entries.

The two most recent Pixel devices enable eSIM MEP (short for Multiple Enabled Profiles). This indicates that they may emulate the dual SIM functionality of earlier Pixels, which depended on one physical SIM card and one eSIM profile to enable this functionality, by having two active eSIM profiles operational simultaneously. The Pixel 7 series would be able to do without a SIM card tray and still support dual SIMs thanks to MEP. But it’s not clear if Google will make versions without a tray. It might simply be a move like this in a future product being prepared for.

Additionally, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro listings show that both devices support “android.hardware.biometrics.facial,” indicating that a biometric face unlock feature is supported. Since the Pixel 4 and 4 XL were the last Pixel phones to declare support for proper secure face unlocks, it’s unclear exactly how the gadgets would implement this functionality.

It’s possible that Google has upgraded its software-based face recognition algorithms or that the corporation has added new hardware to the phones that makes this possible. Another possibility is that Google offers fingerprint-assisted face recognition, which might make it easier to unlock a fingerprint when the proper face is identified. Whatever solution Google has in mind, it’s encouraging to see given how slow and picky the fingerprint scanners on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are.

The listing also supports certain important specifications found earlier. The Pixel 7 will include 8GB of RAM and a screen with a 1080×2400 resolution and a 420 dpi density. The Pixel 7 Pro will have a 1440×3120 screen with a 560 dpi resolution and 12GB of RAM. Both smartphones are equipped with Google’s new Tensor G2 chipset, which is now known to be set up with four little Cortex-A55 cores at 1800MHz, two large Cortex-A76 cores at 2250MHz, and two extremely large Cortex-X1 cores at 2800MHz. Although this is a little improvement over the Tensor chip from the first generation, we anticipate that it will result in reduced overheating.
