Flaunt Weeekly
Saweetie steps into a winter wonderland, savoring a sweet romance sustained all year in the “I Want You This Christmas” music video. Directed by Jamar Harding, the clip finds the 31-year-old rhymer in full glam, delivering the track from an on-brand icy glacier.
The video also features moments between the Grammy-nominated act and her love interest using a nineties-inspired grainy filter, adding a charming, nostalgic glow. “I just wanna show you love, I just wanna hold you down/ You been a good boy all year, well boy let me show you now,” rhymes the Bay Area rapper in the romantic holiday offering.
“I Want You This Christmas” is one of two winter holiday-ready tracks issued by Saweetie earlier this month in the Dear Big Santa drop. The second track “Big Santa” takes a different approach, where the rapper is the gift. Both songs follow Saweetie’s current single “Is It The Way” which puts her spin on a Jill Scott classic.
“I get nervous with every release. I can’t help it,” detailed the “Closer” performer earlier this year. “I get the jitters, I can’t sleep at night and I just feel like I’m sharing such an intimate piece of me because it is created in the studio, and then you eventually share it out into the world.”
She continued to elaborate, “I think it is our duty [as artists] to take this art serious […] I have so much time to sit with myself and learn myself as a human, as a woman, as a artist, I just feel like I’m ready to share those stories. I have a lot of stories to tell. I just feel like I’ve been through so much, and I’m trying to figure out a way to tell that story throughout this album. In the beginning, I was so private, like, ‘Let me not share too much.’ But when I’m listening to these great albums, likeThe Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,The Blueprint, [Kanye West’s]Graduationyou were able to really get to know these people. I really just want the world to get to know Saweetie better.”
