The Northern Ontario Latin-Hispanic Association (NOLHA) in partnership with the Sault Ste. Marie Public Library held a Brazilian Festival including music, dancing and food at the Downtown Plaza located at 526 Bay St. Saturday.

The event was scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

October is Latin-Hispanic Heritage Month in Canada.

The event was sponsored by Algoma Steel, the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Local Immigration Partnership, Algoma University, Kevanna Fine Photography and others.

Participants wore yellow, green and blue Brazilian soccer jerseys and traditional clothing from Brazil and other Latin American countries.

The event was a day for Brazilians and people from other Latin American countries to both celebrate the customs of their respective homelands while sharing them with the people of their new Canadian hometown of Sault Ste. Marie said Lucas Urrea, NOLHA vice-chair.
