Will Rick and Michonne fall in love with a Walker?
Four years have passed since AMC said it would make three more made-for-TV movies to continue the story of Rick Grimes. And at the Walking Dead panel at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, AMC finally admitted that the Rick Grimes movie wasn’t exactly dead, but it also wasn’t exactly the same. The story of Rick and Michonne will continue in a six-part TV miniseries that will start in 2023.
Andrew Lincoln’s last episode of The Walking Dead aired in 2018, and it’s not clear what happened to his character. Danai Gurira left the show a season later, and her character Michonne went on a trip to find Rick. For the new season, both Lincoln and Gurira will be back.
In a press release, AMC wrote that the relationship between Rick and Michonne will be the most important part of the show. “This series tells an epic love story about two people who have changed because the world has changed. Space kept them apart. By a force that can’t be stopped. By ghosts of who they used to be. Rick and Michonne are thrown into a world where the dead are at war with each other. And in the end, a war against those still alive. Can they find each other and remember who they were in a place and situation that are very different from anything they’ve ever known? Are they at war? Lovers? Victims? Victors? “Are they even alive without each other, or will they find out that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
AMC also said that the show will “start with six episodes,” which leaves the door open for the series to go on for longer than that.
