Rapper A$AP Rocky has been accused of assault in connection with the shooting of a former buddy in Hollywood in November 2021.
The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is accused of using a gun personally on two counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon, according to a press release from the office of Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.
On Wednesday, Mayers, 33, is due to be arraigned.
In the release, Gascón’s office stated that “dispersion of a firearm in a public location is a severe felony that could have ended with catastrophic results not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.”

The announcement stated, “My office conducted a careful examination of the material in this case and found that the addition of a special firearm charge was warranted.

After a dispute in Hollywood on November 6, 2021, shots were fired.
Rocky allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot his ex-friend twice; the victim suffered minor wounds. The rapper and two other individuals then left the area.

He was detained at the Los Angeles International Airport earlier this year after spending time in Barbados with singer Rihanna. Together, the two celebrities have a child.
The Los Angeles Police Department is still actively investigating the incident.

Mayers and two of his bodyguards were prosecuted, tried, and convicted of assault in Sweden in July 2019. A man named Mustafa Jafari was allegedly beaten by the rapper and his security crew on June 30 on the streets of Stockholm, hitting, kicking, and cutting him until he sustained many lacerations and a shattered rib.
The court disagreed with Mayers and his team’s claim that they were acting in self-defense during the trial and granted them conditional sentences, which allowed them to escape jail time and leave the country provided they didn’t repeat a similar crime.
