Returning in November for Season 5 of “The Crown” with a new monarch

In the first week of November, “The Crown” will reclaim its place atop Netflix.

LA (Associated Press) – In the first week of November, “The Crown” will reclaim its place atop Netflix.

The streaming service announced on Saturday that the drama series about Queen Elizabeth II and her extended family will start its fifth season on Nov. 9. The launch will occur two months after the queen’s passing at age 96 on September 8.

The sixth season’s filming was put on hold the day of the queen’s passing and once more for her funeral. She was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.

Imelda Staunton will play Elizabeth in the upcoming season, making her the most recent in a line of performers who have performed the role over the course of Elizabeth’s life and reign. Claire Foy played the child princess Elizabeth in the first two seasons as she rose to the throne and developed into the queen. In seasons three and four, Olivia Colman played a more experienced queen.

22 Emmy Awards have been given to the programme, including one for best drama series and two for top drama actresses, Foy and Colman. Josh O’Connor received an Emmy for best drama actor for his 13 episodes in which he played Prince Charles as a young man.

In season four, Emma Corrin played the crucial part of Princess Diana; in seasons five and six, Elizabeth Debicki (“Tenet”) played the part. Prince Charles is played by Dominic West opposite her. Elizabeth’s oldest child, the prince, succeeded her as King Charles III.

Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret are two further additions to the cast.
