Following Matt Shakman’s departure from the untitled project to concentrate on “Fantastic Four,” the change was made.
A Dec. 22, 2023 cinema release date for Paramount’s unnamed Star Trek film has been scrapped, the studio formally confirmed on Tuesday.
The information wasn’t shocking. The Hollywood Reporter reported in late August that director Adam Shakman had left the movie due to schedule conflicts with his move to Marvel’s Fantastic Four.
“Matt Shakman is an incredibly talented filmmaker, and we regret the timing didn’t align for him to direct our upcoming Star Trek film,” Paramount Pictures said in a statement at the time. We appreciate all of his contributions, are enthusiastic about this new chapter’s creative direction, and can’t wait to share it with audiences all around the world.
The most recent iteration of the script was written by Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires, building on a draught by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer.
The crew of the rebooted Enterprise, which was initially featured in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 picture Star Trek, is expected to be reunited with Chris Pine in the long-in-development Trek movie. The cast includes actors including John Cho, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, and Zachary Quinto. Star Trek Beyond was the film in which they most recently appeared.
