LCG Auctions is back with another massive sale of an unopened First Generation Apple iPhone, this time for $39,339.60 USD. Despite a $2,500 beginning bid, the auction was expected to bring in $50,000 or more and ended with a final sale price of $63,356.40 USD. The auction now holds the record for the highest price paid for a First Generation Apple iPhone.
Karen Green, a cosmetic tattoo artist in New Jersey, hosted the auction, which began on February 2 and ended on February 19. Green received the iPhone as a gift but never used it since she was locked to a Verizon plan that did not support iPhones. Green had been considering selling the phone for a few years when he contacted LCG Auctions after the auction house’s last transaction. She revealed that the proceeds from the sale of an unopened First Generation Apple iPhone will be used to fund her cosmetic tattoo shop.
The original Apple iPhone, introduced by the late Steve Jobs in 2007, cost $599 USD and came with 4GB or 8GB of memory, a 2-megapixel camera, and a 3.5-inch screen.
