South Africa-born football coach Benni McCarthy claims the late Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes is the only person who can make him return to making music.
In 1998, Benni teamed up with kwaito legends TKZee on the smash hit Shibobo. Later in 2012, he collaborated with producer Dome and the hip-hop group Team Tswara on Long live Africawhich received significant airplay on popular radio stations such as Umhlobo Wenene, Kaya FM, and YFM.
AKA and McCarthy shared a beautiful bond before his death.
The South African rapper was shot dead two years ago, alongside his friend Tibz in front of a restaurant in Durban.
During a recent interview on5 Breakfast on 5FM, Benni said: “The only person who could have probably got me back into music or doing anything [in music] was the late AKA. He was someone really special. We had a bond so we would always be in contact.”
He added, “I was completely devastated when I found out what happened. I don’t think there’s a person in the music industry who can convince me [to get back into music]. If I were to do anything, it would have been with Kiernan.”
