BLACKPINK will be the first K-pop band to have a concert inside a video game.
BLACKPINK announced on July 12 that they would be working with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile on their in-game concert “The Virtual,” which will take place later this month. They did this by posting a cool pink and black poster.
A YG Entertainment rep said, “In addition to the members’ three-dimensional avatars, the high-quality technology of the game production company PUBGM will bring the members’ three-dimensional sounds and performances to life.”
“BLACKPINK will play a special song at ‘The Virtual,'” they said. Fans will be able to try something new and different at the concert that will take place in the virtual world. In particular, motion capture will be used to finish the performances, giving them a real-life feel like the real thing.”
This will be the second time the girl group has worked with PUBG. PUBG Mobile’s lobby used songs from BLACKPINK’s “THE ALBUM” as background music.
The concert will happen in North and South America on July 22–23 and July 29–30, and in the rest of the world on July 23–24 and July 30–31.
