Jonathan Groff will return to Broadway this season in the new musical Just in Time.

In the show, Groff, a Tony winner for his role in last season’s Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Alongwill play Bobby Darin, the singer/songwriter known for “Beyond the Sea,” “Mack the Knife,” “Splish Splash” and more. Groff is also a producer on the project, alongside Tom Kirdahy, Robert Ahrens and John Frost.

The show, developed and directed by Alex Timbers (Beetlejuice, Here Lies Love), will begin previews at the Circle in the Square Theatre starting March 28, 2025 with an opening night April 3. The theater is currently home to Romeo + Juliet, which is a limited run, set to close Feb. 16.

The run marks the world premiere of Just in Time, which features a book by Warren Leight (Side Man) and Isaac Oliver (Intimacy Idiot) and choreography by Shannon Lewis. The play, which features a live, on-stage big band and a cast of 16, is based on an original concept by Ted Chapin.

“Bobby Darin was a supernova. He blazed his way through every corner of the entertainment industry, but his enormous talent, charisma, and pure genius were most on display when he was letting it rip in front of a crowd. This primal passionate love affair he had with the audience was the inspiration for our show’s conceit,” Groff said. “Alex Timber’s distinctive ability to make going to the theater an unforgettable event and Bobby’s signature musicality and explosive fleeting life make Broadway the perfect place to experience the story and essence of this once in a lifetime talent.”

In addition to his role as Franklin Shepard in Merrily We Roll Along, opposite Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Mendez, Groff was Tony-nominated for his role as King George in Hamilton and as Melchior in Spring Awakening. He has also appeared in the television series Mindhunter, Looking and Glee and in the films Frozen and Frozen II, The Matrix Resurrections and Knock at the Cabin.
