Kirk Franklin To Be HonoredWith 2025 Black Music IconAward

Kirk Franklin has been announced as the 2025 recipient of the Black Music Icon Award presented by the Black Music Collective. The Black Music Collective is an advisory group of music industry leaders who will speak openly about new and emerging opportunities in Black music and identify ways to drive Black representation.

According to Billboard, he is being recognized for his commitment to his craft has “profoundly shaped the industry and whose legacy of service inspires countless people around the world.” The ceremony is set to take place on Jan. 30, 2025, at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

“Kirk has not only revolutionized gospel music but has also bridged the gap between genres, redefining the possibilities of musical expression and inspiring generations with his message of hope and faith,” explained Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy.

“His unwavering dedication to his craft and his legacy of service embody the very essence of the Black Music Icon Award. We look forward to honoring Kirk for his profound influence on the industry and the countless lives he continues to touch worldwide.”

At the fourth annual event, Alicia Keys will also be presented with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. The award was established in 2023 to “recognize artists whose influence extends far beyond music” and “celebrate not only musical excellence but also entrepreneurial achievements, philanthropic efforts, and a profound impact on a global scale.”

“From her timeless music to her unwavering dedication to uplifting others, Alicia has made an indelible impact on the world,” detailed Mason Jr.
