Mom Thinks She’s Playing White Noise for Toddler, Then Realizes Her Mistake

One mom was left in stitches when she realized she had made her toddler sleep through two hours of house music.

Ellis Tyson from Yorkshire, England, put her daughter down to sleep and asked her Alexa to play white noise music. She left, hoping the soothing sounds she requested would help the baby sleep. But a couple of hours later, she realized the Alexa was actually playing house music.

“I put white noise on most nights and it normally plays the soothing baby noise at volume 2 so I asked Alexa to play it as I always do and didn’t wait to hear it,” Tyson told Newsweek.

In a viral video on TikTokwhich has received 5.8 million views, we see Tyson laughing as she enters the room to switch the music off. Her child was still sleeping.

Instead of playing white noise sounds, Alexa played the song “White Noise” by electronic music duo Disclosure, which was eventually picked up by the baby monitor.

She wrote in the video’s caption: “Last night I put white noise on in Elsie’s rooms… didn’t realise Alexa had been playing some absolute bangers instead.

“She slept through it, the camera was picking up the music not the crying. When I checked the footage she was asleep the whole time.”

The mom told Newsweek: “To be honest I just thought it was hysterical. The fact she was still sound asleep through it sent me into hysterics!”

Tyson posted it thinking it was funny. She did not realize how much it would “blow up” online.

Thousands of social media users took to the comments section of Tyson’s video with their reactions.

Edith joked: “She’s shopping at Zara in her dream.” Amber quipped: “Me hungover trying to sleep in Ibiza.”

“She’s dreaming about the club,” said Dan. Katie said: “Howling at the muffled sound of the song starting.”

“She got woken by a whole rave,” said Rochelle. “In 20 years she’ll wonder why she gets sleepy with such a specific genre of music,” @throwmeaway commented.

Tamar commented: “Every time she hears that song when she’s older she’ll get a sense of déjà vu that she won’t be able to place.”
