Left-field composer Peter Broderick has shared his new ‘Mimi’ EP in full.

The EP features two songs, each becoming a performance of grief. Music that touches on loss, ‘Mimi’ acts an ode to matriarchal energy, saluting two key influences on his life.

Out now, ‘Mimi’ has a twin-reference point – the title is a nod to his grandmother, and also Low’s heavenly Mimi Parker.

The title song was composed for his grandmother’s memorial service, while this is paired to a heart-bruising rendition of ‘Laser Beam’ by Low.

Peter Broderick shares…

I was asked by my family to play violin at my grandmother Mimi’s memorial service. I wrote this piece for the beloved matriarch of our family. To my great surprise, when cousin John Doran heard it at the memorial, he was inspired to write an organ accompaniment.

Meanwhile, another great Mimi passed away around the same time — the angel voice Mimi Parker of the band Low. I learned their song ‘Laser Beam’, and my sister Heather Woods Broderick was kind enough to sing harmony. With these two songs I bow in tribute to the great lost Mimis of this world.

Tune in now.
