If you’re not familiar with padel you’re about to be. Thought to have been invented in Acapulco, Mexico by Enrique Corcuera in 1969 as a tennis-squash hybrid, padel has been recognised as the fastest growing sport on earth on its way to 75 national federations to join the roster for the 2032 Summer Olympics. Often dubbed ‘padel tennis’ for its use of similar balls and a low wide net, the games differ vastly when it comes to rules – tennis is set within a wide, open-air court that the balls should not leave. In contrast, padel makes use of the walls and other hard surfaces within its smaller, enclosed court, much like squash.

Since 2020 padel has made significant gains in popularity and legitimacy – being included in the 2023 European Games and picking up key ex-professional tennis players. The UK’s Padel Social Club (PSC) is at the forefront of this movement, working hard to build a thriving padel community in London and beyond through its member clubs. The sport has just been officially co-signed by Stormzy with a groundbreaking investment in the PSC, ensuring a wider reach across different communities and more successful growth for the PSC and the sport itself. Stormzy’s endorsement marks a significant chapter in the history of padel as the PSC seeks to elevate the sport further.

“Padel isn’t just another sport – it’s got something that draws everyone in, whether you’re new to the game or already hooked, as I am”, commented Stormzy. What really stood out to me about Padel Social Club is that they’re doing more than just building courts – they’re creating a community and bringing people together through the sport. That’s why I’m excited to be an investor and part of this journey. Big things are coming!”

Stormzy’s investment in the PSC comes on the heels of a wildly successful summer at the PSC’s debut Earls Court club. Next year is set to be a big one for padel and the PSC, with further expansion across the UK starting with new indoor and outdoor courts opening at The O2 in London, and plans for an indoor club to open in Wandsworth for summer 2025.

“Having Stormzy invest in Padel Social Club is a significant moment for us. While he’s renowned for his music, he’s also made his mark in both sport and business, and his passion for community perfectly aligns with what we stand for. Together, we’re taking padel to new heights in the UK. With Stormzy’s backing and our expansion at The O2 and Wandsworth, we’re building a brand that’s about more than just the sport—it’s about creating a place where people can come together, play, and experience the full Padel Social Club lifestyle.” – Kristian Hunter, CEO of Padel Social Club.
