Suspect Arrested in Killing of Migos Rapper Takeoff

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of Migos rapper Takeoff, an “innocent bystander” struck by gunfire outside a bowling alley in Houston.

Patrick Xavier Clark was taken into custody Thursday night, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner. Clark’s arrest comes just a day after another man was charged in conjunction with the November 1 shooting, in which two other people were wounded. Police said the shooting arose from a dispute over a dice game.

On Friday, Clark was held in jail awaiting a bond hearing. While court records do not list an attorney to speak on his behalf, there are indications that he was arrested while preparing to leave the country for Mexico.

Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was the youngest member of the Grammy-nominated rap trio Migos. The Atlanta-based Migos also featured Takeoff’s uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.

The 28-year-old was shot outside a bowling alley in downtown Houston at around 2:30 AM after police said a dispute erupted as more than 30 people were leaving a private party. Authorities have previously said that another man and woman suffered non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and that at least two individuals opened fire.

According to Seargent Michael Burrow, every person on the scene left without speaking to the police. During a Friday news conference, Burrow said that the gunfire followed a dispute over a “lucrative” game of dice but that Takeoff was not involved. Police do not know whether Clark was invited to the party or if he knew Takeoff.

A few witnesses have since been located by authorities, who have worked to piece together events through ballistics, video, and audio recordings. Burrow says that investigators are still trying to track down additional witnesses.

“We will be looking to find you,” hesaid. “It will be easier if you come find us.”

On Wednesday, police announced the arrest of Cameron Joshua in connection with the shooting. Joshua was charged with illegally carrying a firearm when Takeoff was shot, but the 22-year-old is not believed to have fired the weapon. Joshua’s attorney told reporters that he had not seen anything to suggest that his client was involved in Takeoff’s killing. At the same time, Burrow says that investigators believe Clark’s gunfire killed the rapper.
