Jennifer Lopez revealed details about her wedding to former fiancé-turned-ex-turned-current husband Ben Affleck in her “On the JLo” newsletter (via Variety). Among the details is the bizarre revelation that Affleck used a line from his own 2016 film Live By Night during his wedding speech to the Marry Me star. “This is heaven,” says the aforementioned line from the crime drama. Right now. We’ve entered the fray.”
Lopez wrote in a recent newsletter post, “That is one of my favourite lines that Ben wrote from a movie he directed called Live By Night.” “He also said it in his speech at our wedding reception, and I thought…how perfect.”
Yes, JLo, you are perfect. The line has a certain je ne sais quoi to it that seems appropriate for a romantic speech, but we have to wonder if Affleck worked on other lines before settling on that one from his violent 1920s mobster film. Guess their shared film Gigli didn’t have much to offer the newlywed couple in terms of poetic proses?
While Affleck’s wedding speech was flawless, Lopez went on to say that the week leading up to the big day was anything but magical, with issues like a mass stomach bug and unexpected rain popping up throughout the week.
“It had rained every day at sunset that week,” she wrote. “Everyone was concerned about the heat, the aptly named ‘love bugs,’ the details, whether all of the guests would arrive on time, and so on—not to mention the thunder and lightning that arrived almost on cue each day at the exact time the ceremony was supposed to begin that Saturday.”
“Oh, and all of us caught a stomach bug and were recuperating ’til late in the week, and that, along with a few other unexpected setbacks, had all the makings of a doozie of a wedding weekend,” the singer added.
None of this deterred the rekindled couple from walking down the aisle and marrying on August 20 at Affleck’s Georgia home.
