Ella Travolta described her mother Kelly Preston as a “force of life” during an interview with Fox News Digital about growing up in the spotlight.
Ella Bleu Travolta is opening out about her experiences growing up in the spotlight.
Ella, the daughter of John Travolta and the late Kelly Preston, recently spoke with Fox News Digital about what she has learned from her father’s great career and her fondest memory of her mother.
“Clearly, growing up with that constant sort of limelight of having all eyes on you or your family has its disadvantages,” Ella remarked. “I think everyone has been so supportive and lovely to us as a family that it really seems like we’re a part of other people’s families,” she says.
“As a result, I’m not focusing on the negative aspects of growing up squarely in the public view.”
John Travolta began his career with the musical “Grease” at the age of 18.
After leaving Broadway, John went to Hollywood, where he appeared in films such as “Urban Cowboy,” “Saturday Night Fever,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Get Shorty,” and “Grease.” His most recent endeavor was “Paradise City,” which he co-wrote with Bruce Willis.
Ella has followed in her father’s footsteps and begun her own career in acting and singing. The 22-year-old has two tracks out: “Dizzy” and “No Thank You.” She will release an EP later this year.
Ella also appeared in “Go Lost,” a “Alice in Wonderland”-an inspired film that concluded production in 2021. She had previously appeared in “Old Dogs” (2009) and “The Poison Rose” (2019).

The comparison between her and her father’s careers is not missed by the aspiring musician.
“It is amazing that, like any avenue that I am going to or towards or anything that I’m choosing to do, especially in the acting and singing world because he has so much experience in both, he has such great advice,” Ella told Fox News Digital. “So, essentially, every situation I’m having, he’s experienced or been through it and can shed some light on at least what he would have done or what he ended up doing in that scenario that worked for him.”
“And then I kind of make it my own from there, like, alright, well, in my specific scenario, knowing what he did, what could I do, or how could I rectify this? Then I strive pretty hard to make it my own.”
Ella and John have suffered a great deal of loss in their lives. Preston, John’s wife, died in 2020 after a two-year fight with breast cancer. Preston’s diagnosis of the condition was not widely acknowledged at the time.
Ella remembers her mother’s zest for life, saying she added “so much delight to everything” she did.
“I think one thing just in general is the force of life that she had towards anything that she was doing, whether we were gonna watch the Super Bowl or have a Halloween party or just a little sleepover get together or something, like, she was full force,” Ella said. “[She] would constantly over-decorate or make things as enjoyable as possible. And she was quite enthusiastic about it.”
“Even if it wasn’t naturally exciting, she would always make it fun and exciting and bring so much excitement to everything,” Ella remembered. “And I have so many memories of that.”
Ella recognizes that aspect of her mother in her own attitude toward life.
“That really sticks with me – always having a really upbeat and joyful perspective on whatever I’m doing,” Ella said. “I believe I’ve acquired that from her.”
Jett Travolta, the Travolta family’s son, died in 2009. He was 16 when he died while on vacation in the Bahamas. Jett, who was autistic and prone to seizures, died as a result of a brain injury sustained during a seizure on the trip.
A year later, John and Preston welcomed their youngest son, Ben. In a 2016 interview with “Good Morning America,” the musician revealed that his birth helped the family keep relocating.
“We certainly have bonded, and having little Ben has been a great… kind of glue for us to rebond after tremendous grief,” he stated at the time.
As Ella continues to land new projects, including her new Silk Nextmilk ad campaign, she’s trying to “juggle” singing and acting as she explores what is next.
“I adore the arts in general. I enjoy singing, acting, writing music, playing instruments, drawing, and dancing “Ella elaborated. “I believe in terms of my career, I’m really trying to focus on acting and singing and doing them both as much as I can at the same time and fitting them into one other because they can easily go hand in hand sometimes if you’re doing a soundtrack or a movie. So I’m doing my best to juggle both as best I can.”
