The singer had delivered a jaw-dropping “AGT” audition a month prior, in which she sang an original song, “It’s OK,” based on her battles with the condition. She received a standing ovation from the audience and a Golden Buzzer from snobby judge Simon Cowell for her performance. On YouTube, a video of the performance has approximately 40 million views.

Marczewski was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in 2017, the first of three cancer diagnoses she would receive over the next three years, the last of which came in 2019 when a doctor told her she only had three months to live.

“It’s vital that everyone understands I’m so much more than the awful things that happen to me,” Nightbirde stated before her performance, refusing to let the condition define her.

She also stated after the show that she only had a 2% chance of surviving — “but 2% is not zero per cent,” she added.
