Meghan Markle despised the rigorous norms of the ruling elite and despised playing second fiddle to Kate Middleton, according to a Kensington Palace official in a new book.
The assistant contributed to author Tom Quinn’s new autobiography, “Gilded Youth: An Intimate Account of Growing Up in the Royal Family,” which was released today.
According to the source, Markle, 41, struggled to acclimatize to royal life after marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
According to a Mirror article, the Duchess of Sussex was “dazzled by the worldwide recognition that being a princess would bring.”
Yet, she didn’t appreciate being compared to Middleton, 41.
“She despised the limits and rules; she despised being a second-rate princess — second only to Katherine Middleton,” the book states.
“Most of all she disliked the fact that she had to do what she was told and go where she was instructed in the endless and to a large extend futile royal circuit,” the text reads.
Markle was also apparently treated in a “somewhat condescending manner” by the Firm since she was not a blood royal, despite Middleton being treated in the same manner.
According to the adviser, the Duchess of Cambridge “does not have Meghan’s messianic tendencies” and was able to deal with the royal establishment better than the former actress.
“The point to remember is that Meghan’s ambition has no bounds, and like most fiercely ambitious people, she never wonders, ‘Have I got this wrong?'” they continue. ‘Are I being overly dramatic?’
“Yet, she is a great person as long as she is never crossed. For a weak boy unsure of himself like Harry, she is perfect because her absolute certainty makes him feel safe,” says the staffer.
The colleague characterizes Markle as a “really sweet, happy, super-positive girl,” but she may have suffered from losing control of her life after joining the royals.
The staff member further reveals that Markle found it difficult to be a part of the long-running institution where she had no say. She was also reportedly outraged that her residence will be in Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace when she assumed she’d be living in Windsor Castle.
Markle and Prince Harry have decided to stand down as senior members of the royal family in January 2020. They later relocated to California in March of that year.
Harry, 38, and the mother of two could be making the trek back to the United Kingdom come May 6, when King Charles is officially crowned as monarch during his coronation.
While invitations have not yet been sent, the couple has been invited.
“Harry is his son, and His Majesty will always love him,” Buckingham Palace insiders told the Daily Mail in December. Even if things are challenging right now, the door will always be left open.”
