Popular Danish monarch Queen Margrethe II expressed regret for disturbing her family by removing regal titles.

Prince Joachim of Denmark claimed that he hasn’t talked to his mother, Queen Margrethe II, as well as his brother Crown Prince Frederik or his sister-in-law Crown Princess Mary since the palace announced his four children would lose their prince and princess titles next year.

Joachim and his first wife Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg, have two kids together: Prince Nikolai, 23, and Prince Felix, 20. He wedded in 2008 to Marie, with whom he has two children: Princess Athena, age 10, and son Prince Henrik, age 13.
The four children of Joachim will no longer hold royal titles starting on January 1, 2023, the Danish royal house said on Wednesday. They shall be referred to as His Excellency the Count of Monpezat or Her Excellency the Countess of Monpezat instead. Sixth in line to the Danish throne is Joachim, the queen’s second son. The present positions of his children in the succession, which are seventh through tenth, will remain unchanged.
The palace released a statement saying that the decision was made by Her Majesty the Queen in order to give her four grandchildren “the framework to be able to shape their own lives to a much greater extent without being limited by the special considerations and duties that a formal affiliation with the Royal House of Denmark as an institution involves.”
It is thought that the modification was intended to simplify the monarchy’s future. Joachim countered that family ought to come first.

Margrethe has expressed regret for disturbing her family with her choice. She didn’t want to change her decision, though.
