The ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ sequel has added Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Taylour Paige, and the Netflix film starring Eddie Murphy has a new title.

EXCLUSIVE: According to Deadline, Taylour Paige and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined series star Eddie Murphy in Netflix’s newly titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, the long-awaited sequel to the classic comedy franchise. The sequel is currently in production, with Mark Molloy directing. Murphy will reprise his role as Axel Foley and will co-produce with Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. The script was written by Will Beall.

The franchise was transferred from Paramount to Netflix in the winter of 2019 and follows the exploits of Detroit cop Foley, who first appeared in the 1984 smash hit that followed him to Beverly Hills to solve a friend’s murder. The film became one of the year’s biggest hits, cementing Murphy’s status as a movie star. Two sequels were released in 1987 and 1994.

The new film will be executive produced by Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic. Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Melissa Reid will co-produce.

Mike Moder, producer of ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ and ‘Crimson Tide,’ died at the age of 86.

Gordon-Levitt has been in a flurry of films since the pandemic, including the popular Netflix actioner Project Power and the Oscar-nominated The Trial of the Chicago 7. Gordon-Levitt has been busy in both TV and film over the last year, beginning with the Showtime series Super Pumped, in which he played Uber founder Travis Kalanick. Following that, he will play Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s Pinocchio. He also recently completed production on the drama Providence, in which he co-starred with Lily James.

Paige has been a star in demand since her breakout role in the A24 film Zola, and she has already had a busy 2022. She was most recently seen in the Lena Dunham film Sharp Stick, which premiered at Sundance, and Mack & Rita, and she is currently working on several projects, including the reboot of The Toxic Avenger with Peter Dinklage.
