Strange World

The latest Strange World trailer displays its pulpy sci-fi roots.

A family of intrepid travellers will be followed as they struggle to survive on a hazardous alien world in Disney’s newest original animated film.

Strange World, Disney’s most recent (completely) animated film, now has a full trailer. Strange World follows the Clades, a legendary family of explorers, as they make their way through an undiscovered, perilous region. They are joined by a motley company of aliens, pilots, and intrepid travellers who are all attempting to stay alive while dodging the hungry inhabitants of the planet.

The original animated adventure/comedy, according to director Don Hall (Big Hero 6, Raya and the Last Dragon), was “influenced by classic adventure stories.” Even in the video, you can see the influence of classic pulp science fiction, from the tropes of the careless pilot to the lost explorer who has truly been living in the wilderness for decades. The movie is “about three generations of the Clade family who overcome their differences,” according to Hall.

In addition to Jake Gyllenhaal playing Searcher Clade, the cast also features Dennis Quaid as Searcher’s infamous adventurer father, Jaeger Clade, Jaboukie Young-White as Ethan Clade, Gabrielle Union as Meridian Clade, and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal. Co-directing and writing the script is Raya and the Last Dragon author Qui Nguyen.

The movie Strange World will open in theatres on November 23.
